- ★★★★★over 1 year agoBeautiful and quiet lake, so quiet you could hear people from across the lake. We stayed at Pecos Campground site 10 - spots are huge, water and electric worked great and loved the full covered patio and table. Only issue: the entire place is covered heavily in goat heads and stickers.
- ★★★★★over 1 year agoThis park was good, I just came at a bad time. The wind was blowing in from the west at 30mph but I still hit up the basketball court. The wind was strong enough to rock my van. I tried to communicate with the camp hosts Dwight and Becca, but I only heard the sound of dogs barking after a few minutes I left and found my campsite, I didn't talk to a single soul the 48 hours I stayed there, except for an awkward encounter with a ranger in the bathroom area.
- ★★★★★over 2 years agoVery beautiful and peaceful state park near Ft. Sumner, NM. In the center of it all is a large lake that you're able to view from all angles, including from the water as there are boat ramps. There are many campgrounds, divided between the east and west campgrounds, that are on either side of Lake Sumner. They have grills and campfire spots and park benches, and many have canopies. There's camping and rv parking spots throughout the park as well. There's trails for hiking, fishing, playground, basketball court, among other amenities. You can spot wildlife all over and there are areas with tons of dragonflies near the dam. There's also a dam that you get to drive across. There are self pay spots before entering different areas. I loved it here and will definitely be back.
- ★★★★★over 2 years ago4 stars instead of 5 because so many people use open style, loud generators. No rule against it and campers respect quiet hours, but the noise is annoying. Otherwise 5 stars. Very clean, well taken care of by rangers and hosts. I stayed in the Mesquite Loop. Water available, no electric, large, mostly flat sites, each site has a covered picnic table and fire ring. The host even picks up your trash every day! Plenty of spots for primitive camping at the lake shore. Double dump station near park exit (room for 2 RVs at the same time). Ft Sumner is a nice town with decent prices on gas and diesel. Definitely a great campground and would recommend.
- ★★★★★over 1 year agoLovely state park! We brought a group out to see a meteor shower and had a great time. Fascinating area. Great lake for swimming, and helpful campground facilities. Especially after some regrettable recent experiences with unfriendly park rangers in a Texas state park😢, we were very impressed with the friendliness of Sumner Lake SP's superintendent (Jacob), and his knowledge of the park, and also his willingness to help patiently answer our questions. Our whole group had a wonderful time💯👏 Terrific place, we'll definitely plan to be back!
