There are miles of trails around this irregular shape of reservoir. The surrounding has a quiet and serene nature. People can paddle boats and fish on water. Many people fish by the lakes too. It also offers people over 200 stairs for training. There are picnic tables at the boat ducking area. The parking is limited. The dam is easy to miss if you come here the first time.

We took the trail from the Gunpowder Falls Trailhead parking. This was more advanced than a typical well-worn hiking trail. We climbed a lot of rocks and walked along the edge of the embankment in many places. Some parts went through narrow thickets, following the path of the river. It was beautiful! But me and my children loved it! We made it to the reservoir and the dam which had a lovely view from the bottom and the top. Big staircase to climb. Overall it was a lot of fun and very satisfying as a challenge but doable. We were with friends who had kids as young as 4. About 1.7 miles one way. There and back with many scenic and energy breaks we spent almost 4 hours total.

One of the beautiful places for hiking, yet not very difficult roads.

Have you spent more time hiking lately? Yup, us too. Narrow walking trails that can be difficult at times, but not too challenging. It's worth the effort to follow the trail around the back of the lake to reach the large rock outcropping. You can keep walking, but we turned around at this point.

Spotted Lanternfly Hotspot. Shake off all clothing when exiting. Lovely view!
